ON-BOARD BOAT & YACHT VALUATION

Professional On-Board Yacht Inspections & Market Valuations Worldwide

Upgrade your YachtAsk Online Valuation Report with a professional on-board inspection performed by an experienced Marine Surveyor.

YachtAsk, operated by VALENCIA Marine Services S.L.U., provides independent yacht valuation services combining market research, technical expertise and physical vessel condition assessments.

Our services cover sailing yachts, motor yachts, catamarans and other recreational vessels through an international network of collaborating marine surveyors.

Important: A completed YachtAsk Online Valuation Report is required before requesting an on-board valuation.

HOW OUR ON-BOARD YACHT VALUATION WORKS?

STEP 1 — OBTAIN YOUR ONLINE YACHT VALUATION

Before arranging an on-board inspection, you must first obtain a YachtAsk Online Valuation Report.

This initial report establishes a preliminary market valuation based on the vessel's characteristics, available documentation and relevant market information.

Your online valuation report contains a unique reference number required for the next stage.

An online valuation is a mandatory prerequisite for an on-board inspection.

STEP 2 — REQUEST YOUR ON-BOARD VALUATION

Once your online valuation report has been issued, you may request an on-board inspection.

You will need to provide:

  • YachtAsk Online Valuation Report reference number.

  • Vessel location, marina and country.

  • Preferred inspection date.

  • Vessel identification and contact information.

  • Purpose of the valuation.

  • Any special inspection requirements.

Each request is individually reviewed according to vessel type, location and surveyor availability.

STEP 3 — RECEIVE YOUR PERSONALISED QUOTATION

YachtAsk evaluates the inspection requirements and coordinates the availability of a suitably qualified marine surveyor.

A personalised quotation is provided, identifying the proposed inspection scope, professional fees, travel expenses where applicable and scheduling conditions.

No inspection is confirmed until the quotation has been accepted and the appointment agreed.

STEP 4 — PROFESSIONAL ON-BOARD INSPECTION

An experienced Marine Surveyor attends the vessel at the agreed location and performs a visual, non-destructive inspection within the accepted scope.

The surveyor records relevant observations concerning the vessel's accessible structures, machinery, equipment, maintenance and general condition.

Photographs and observations may be collected as supporting evidence for the valuation assessment.

STEP 5 — PROFESSIONAL REVIEW & FINAL VALUATION

Following the inspection, the findings are reviewed alongside the original online valuation, available supporting documentation and relevant market evidence.

The results may justify adjustments to the preliminary valuation.

A professional valuation report is issued following technical review and approval.

The final valuation reflects the professional assessment of the available evidence. No particular valuation outcome is guaranteed.

INTERNATIONAL YACHT VALUATION COVERAGE

YachtAsk coordinates professional on-board yacht inspections through a worldwide network of collaborating Marine Surveyors, Naval Architects and qualified marine inspection professionals.

Our international approach allows yacht owners, brokers, insurers and other interested parties to request inspections in different countries without relying exclusively on a single geographical office.

Inspection coordination may be available at marinas, ports, boatyards and yacht facilities worldwide.

WORLDWIDE NETWORK OF MARINE SURVEYORS

EXPERIENCED LOCAL INSPECTION PROFESSIONALS

Worldwide coordination does not mean guaranteed inspection coverage in every location.

Some ports, marinas, islands or remote geographical areas may not be covered by an available collaborating marine surveyor.

Where local coverage is unavailable, YachtAsk may assess alternative arrangements, including the appointment of a suitably qualified professional from another location.

Additional travel, accommodation, transport or attendance expenses may apply.

All inspections remain subject to surveyor availability, safe vessel access, an agreed scope of work and quotation acceptance.

SURVEYOR AVAILABILITY & GEOGRAPHICAL LIMITATIONS

Our collaborating professionals are selected according to the technical requirements of each assignment.

We seek to appoint surveyors with:

  • Demonstrable relevant marine surveying experience.

  • Appropriate technical qualifications or professional competence.

  • Experience with the vessel type concerned.

  • Knowledge of yacht construction, machinery and marine equipment.

  • Professional independence and objective reporting practices.

  • The ability to document inspection findings clearly.

YachtAsk coordinates the assignment and reviews the inspection evidence for valuation purposes.

WHAT DOES AN ON-BOARD YACHT VALUATION INCLUDE?

VESSEL IDENTIFICATION & DOCUMENTATION

Review of available documentation relevant to the valuation, which may include vessel identification details, principal particulars, construction information, engine data, maintenance records and declared equipment.

Documentation is considered to the extent available and relevant. Its authenticity, completeness and legal validity are not independently certified unless expressly agreed.

HULL, DECK & ACCESSIBLE STRUCTURES

Visual assessment of accessible structural and external areas, including:

  • Hull surfaces visible and accessible at the time of inspection.

  • Deck and superstructure.

  • Accessible structural components.

  • Visible evidence of damage, deterioration or repairs.

  • Hatches, windows and external fittings.

  • General maintenance and observable condition.

Concealed or inaccessible structures are excluded unless specific access or testing is arranged.

MACHINERY & PROPULSION EQUIPMENT

Visual assessment of accessible propulsion machinery and associated installations, where included in the agreed scope:

  • Main engine installation and visible components.

  • Engine compartment general condition.

  • Accessible propulsion-related equipment.

  • Evidence of visible leakage, corrosion or poor maintenance.

  • Available machinery maintenance documentation.

Engine operation, performance testing and specialist diagnostics are not included unless specifically agreed.

ELECTRICAL, NAVIGATION & SAFETY EQUIPMENT

General visual assessment of accessible electrical installations, navigation equipment, safety appliances and onboard systems relevant to the vessel's condition and market value.

The inspection does not constitute functional certification, statutory compliance verification or specialist equipment testing.

PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE & SURVEY OBSERVATIONS

The appointed surveyor may document relevant findings through photographs, inspection notes and other appropriate records.

This evidence supports the professional valuation assessment and helps identify factors that may influence the vessel's estimated market value.

ACCOMMODATION, INTERIOR & GENERAL CONDITION

Visual assessment of accessible accommodation spaces, interior finishes, installed equipment and the vessel's overall presentation.

Observable wear, maintenance condition, deterioration and relevant visible defects may be considered in the valuation.

INSPECTIONS CONDUCTED BY EXPERIENCED MARINE SURVEYORS

On-board yacht valuation inspections are conducted by marine surveyors with demonstrable experience and relevant technical competence.

Depending on the assignment, the appointed professional may be a Marine Surveyor, Naval Architect or Marine Engineer with suitable experience in vessel inspections and condition assessments.

The inspection follows a defined scope agreed before attendance, using appropriate visual examination, professional judgement and documented observations.

PROFESSIONAL INSPECTION STANDARDS & METHODOLOGY

INDEPENDENT TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT

Our inspection methodology is designed to support an objective assessment of the vessel's observable condition.

The surveyor records relevant evidence and identifies matters that may materially influence the valuation.

The professional valuation process considers the inspection findings alongside available market information and the preliminary online valuation.

An on-board valuation is a valuation-focused inspection. It is not equivalent to a comprehensive pre-purchase condition survey or a statutory vessel certification.

ON-BOARD INSPECTION SCOPE & LIMITATIONS

VISUAL & NON-DESTRUCTIVE INSPECTION

Unless expressly agreed otherwise, our standard on-board valuation inspections are visual, non-invasive and non-destructive.

The survey is limited to those areas, components and systems that are safely accessible at the time of attendance.

Inspection findings represent observable conditions during the inspection and do not guarantee the absence of hidden or developing defects.

STANDARD EXCLUSIONS

Unless specifically included in the accepted quotation, a standard on-board valuation inspection does not include:

  • Haul-out or underwater hull inspection.

  • Sea trials or vessel performance testing.

  • Engine dismantling or internal machinery examinations.

  • Engine diagnostics, compression tests or oil analysis.

  • Destructive testing or structural dismantling.

  • Removal of fixed panels, linings or permanently installed equipment.

  • Inspection of concealed or inaccessible structures.

  • Detailed standing rigging inspections or mast climbing.

  • Specialist electrical, electronic or mechanical testing.

  • Detailed osmosis investigation or hull moisture assessment.

  • Ultrasonic thickness measurements or other specialist non-destructive testing.

  • Verification of legal ownership, financial encumbrances or title.

  • Certification of compliance with flag-state, classification or statutory requirements.

Any additional investigation, testing, equipment operation or specialist attendance requires a separately agreed scope.

VESSEL ACCESS & OPERATING CONDITIONS

The extent of inspection depends on the vessel's location, access arrangements, operating condition and safety restrictions.

Locked compartments, obstructed spaces, submerged areas, inaccessible components and equipment that cannot be safely examined are excluded from assessment.

The surveyor may restrict or discontinue inspection activities where safe access or suitable working conditions cannot be maintained.

LIMITATIONS OF THE VALUATION OPINION

The professional valuation reflects the information reasonably available at the valuation date, the agreed inspection scope and the surveyor's documented findings.

Market conditions, vessel condition, available comparable listings, maintenance history and documentation may influence the assessment.

A valuation opinion is not a guarantee of the price achievable in a future sale.

It does not guarantee vessel seaworthiness, operational reliability, statutory compliance or freedom from defects.

ADDITIONAL SPECIALIST INSPECTIONS

Where the circumstances require more detailed investigations, YachtAsk may recommend a separate specialist service.

Examples include machinery diagnostics, rigging surveys, structural investigations, ultrasonic testing, moisture testing, sea trials or comprehensive pre-purchase surveys.

Such services are not automatically included in the standard on-board valuation.

YACHT OWNERS

Obtain a more informed professional assessment of your vessel's market value, taking into account its observable condition and available supporting documentation.

WHO NEEDS AN ON-BOARD YACHT VALUATION?

YACHT BUYERS & SELLERS

Support yacht sale negotiations and pricing decisions through additional condition evidence and an independent valuation opinion.

INSURANCE COMPANIES & BROKERS

Request an independent vessel valuation and supporting condition observations where such reporting meets the insurer's requirements.

Acceptance of any valuation report remains subject to the receiving organisation's criteria.

FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS & ASSET MANAGERS

Obtain a professional valuation opinion to assist asset reviews, financing assessments or portfolio management, subject to the agreed purpose and reporting requirements.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WILL THE FINAL VALUATION DIFFER FROM MY ONLINE VALUATION?

It may. The physical inspection provides additional evidence of vessel condition that can influence the professional valuation.

DO I NEED AN ONLINE VALUATION BEFORE REQUESTING AN ON-BOARD INSPECTION?

Yes. A completed YachtAsk Online Valuation Report is mandatory. Its unique reference number must be supplied when requesting the on-board inspection.

ARE ON-BOARD YACHT VALUATIONS AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE?

YachtAsk coordinates inspections through an international network of collaborating marine surveyors. However, availability is not guaranteed in every port, marina or country.

WHO PERFORMS THE ON-BOARD YACHT INSPECTION?

Inspections are undertaken by experienced marine surveyors or other appropriately qualified marine professionals with demonstrable competence relevant to the assignment.

DOES AN ON-BOARD VALUATION INCLUDE A COMPLETE YACHT SURVEY?

No. The standard service is a valuation-focused visual inspection. A comprehensive pre-purchase or detailed condition survey requires a separately agreed scope.

IS AN ONLINE BOAT VALUATION ACCURATE?

An online valuation provides an estimate based on the accuracy and completeness of the supplied information and the quality of available market evidence.

It cannot independently verify the vessel's physical condition and does not replace an on-board survey.

DOES AN ON-BOARD VALUATION INCLUDE A SEA TRIAL?

No. Sea trials are excluded from the standard service unless expressly included in the accepted quotation.

CAN I BOOK AN ON-BOARD INSPECTION WITHOUT MY ONLINE REPORT REFERENCE?

No. The YachtAsk Online Valuation Report is the required first stage. The report reference must be provided before an on-board inspection request can be processed.

HOW MUCH DOES AN ON-BOARD YACHT VALUATION COST?

Each inspection is quoted individually. Costs depend on the vessel's dimensions and type, location, access arrangements, required scope and surveyor availability.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS NO AVAILABLE SURVEYOR NEAR MY YACHT?

YachtAsk may explore alternative arrangements, including the appointment of a suitably qualified surveyor from another location. Additional expenses may apply, and availability cannot be guaranteed.
